All the physical Yoga practices (Postures, Breathing Exercises) popular in the world are part of Hatha Yoga or Raja Yoga. In Hatha Yoga, there is a popular colloquial saying-
योग से समाधि भी लगती है और योग से व्याधि भी होती है। (Yoga leads to super-consciousness and it can lead to disease too.)
Many enlightening yogis including Guru Gorakhnath have warned us about these cautions time and time again. Here are the 8 cautions before taking up Yoga practices with a modern blend-
1. You should be at least 8 years old or above.
2. The place- Choose a solitary, beautiful and pleasing spot. On the bank of a river, lake or beach or hilltop are desirable. If you live in a city, you should at least find a spot with open-air or a proper and naturally ventilated room if you can’t get out.
3. The Time- The best time for Yoga is in the morning (4:00 am to 6: am). One can also practice it in the evening (4:30 pm -6:30 pm)
4. Food- The practitioner should take moderate, light, substantial and nutritious food.
You can’t imagine getting success in yoga if you are eating all kinds of meats and junk-food, drinking and staying up late, then waking up late in the morning and doing yoga only to get ailments and diseases. One should not blame Yoga for that kind of lecherous and faulty lifestyle.
5. During the Practice of Pranayama (Breathing exercises), Your spine should be comfortably erect. The head, neck, and spine must be in one line.
6. If you wear glasses, please keep them aside during the practice.
7. Also, please put the phones on silent mode or switch off.
8. Do not practice yoga on a full stomach or immediately after a meal. There must be a gap of minimum 2:30 hours between a meal and the practice. The empty stomach is a desirable state to perform yoga.
